It is a great privilege for the Dawn Media Group to be associated as media partners with the Lahore Literary Festival (LLF), now in its second year. And this year, LLF has outdone all expectations: with over 100 writers, artists, academics and musicians from eight countries enriching the environs of the Alhamra Art Center in historic Lahore for three days, expect to be engaged by an array of intellectual conversations, interviews, art exhibits and visual performances. LLF 2014 participants include Vali Nasr, Vikram Seth, Kamila Shamsie, Uzma Aslam Khan, Zia Mohyeddin, artist Shahzia Sikander; journalist Jugnu Mohsin; and many more. I am proud to say the Festival will feature a special showing and discussion of the work of Lahore’s lost daughter, Amrita Sher Gil; and scholar Pierre Alain Baud will talk on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan among other exciting panels. Also, sessions on the Middle East and Afghanistan are important as political events unfold in the region. Pakistan is in need of a cultural renaissance as resistance to the arts and literature increases, and we need writers and artists to reinvigorate us with their intellectual abundance. For this reason and more, the Dawn Media Group continues to lend support for the preservation and celebration of arts and culture in Pakistan believing that a nation stays alive when its culture stays alive.
